As I'm starting to settle into these new circumstances, I’m finding myself drawn to more podcasts, books and blogs that help me gain knowledge and lift my mood.
Yesterday I listened to “Unlocking Us with Brené Brown” and (of course) loved the first episode on FFT’s (“bloody” first times). It just hit the nail on the head with how I’m feeling…about everything – the current situation with COVID19 as well as stepping into the light more and more with my coaching business.
As you've probably heard before, in order to keep growing, in any aspect of life, we need to try new things, which means diving into discomfort. The more we practice this, does not mean we feel any less discomfort, but we learn to deal with it and survive the awkward moments.
But how?! Brené breaks the strategy down into 3 simple steps:
Normalise it — this is how new and brave is supposed to feel
Put it into perspective — this is not permanent
Reality check your expectations — I’m not going to be good at this right away
What this means for me with COVID19, is reassurance that it's normal and OK to feel uneasy as uncertainty is everywhere. Gaining perspective that I know this situation is not forever. And recognising that I need to be more patient with myself and others, and ask for what I need.
In my new business, it’s similar in that I recognise everything is new and uncertain, which can be scary and that is OK. I also know that I will not always be at the beginning of something new and that it will take some time to feel comfortable in this new role of marketing myself and my business.
